At Hubert Ogunde Memorial Montessori School, we are dedicated to nurturing the holistic development of every child. This commitment aligns seamlessly with the initiatives of the World Organization for Early Childhood Education (OMEP) in Nigeria, particularly their impactful events held in Lagos.

Empowering Through Sustainable Education

OMEP Nigeria has been at the forefront of promoting sustainable education practices. Their “Activity-Based Low Cost, No Cost” initiative, recognized with the 2022 Special Achievement in Education for Sustainable Development Award, emphasizes the use of recycled materials to create engaging learning experiences. This approach not only fosters creativity among children but also instills values of environmental responsibility from an early age.

Professional Development for Educators

Understanding that quality education begins with well-equipped teachers, OMEP Lagos organized a three-day Continuous Professional Development Training for Teachers. This program introduced educators to innovative strategies, including the “7 REs” of sustainability: Reuse, Reduce, Recycle & Recreate, Redistribute, Respect, Reflect, and Rethink. By integrating these principles into the curriculum, teachers are better prepared to cultivate environmentally conscious and socially responsible students.

Inclusive Celebrations for All Children

OMEP’s commitment to inclusivity was evident during the 2024 Children’s Day celebrations in Lagos. In collaboration with the Child Protection Network (CPN) and other partners, events were organized under the theme “Inclusion For Every Child.” Over 300 children from diverse backgrounds, including those from orphanages, shelters, and with disabilities, participated in activities designed to promote unity and equal opportunities.

Benefits for the Ogunde School Community

Engaging with OMEP’s initiatives offers numerous advantages for our students and educators:

  • Enhanced Learning Experiences: Incorporating sustainable practices into our teaching methods enriches the learning environment and fosters critical thinking.
  • Professional Growth: Teachers gain access to cutting-edge training, equipping them with tools to deliver high-quality education.
  • Community Engagement: Participation in inclusive events strengthens our school’s ties to the broader community, promoting empathy and social awareness among students.

We are proud to align ourselves with organizations like OMEP that share our vision of comprehensive child development. By embracing these collaborative opportunities, Hubert Ogunde Memorial Montessori School continues to pave the way for a brighter, more inclusive future for all our learners.
