How to choose a laptop for your child

When choosing a laptop for your child(ren), it’s important to consider their needs and how the laptop will be used.

Here are some general recommendations for laptop specifications that may be suitable for an 8-13 years-old pupil/student:

  1. Screen Size: Look for a laptop with a screen size between 11-13 inches. This will provide a good balance between portability and screen real estate.
  2. Processor: An Intel Celeron or Pentium processor will be sufficient for basic computing tasks such as web browsing, word processing, and light gaming.
  3. RAM: 4GB of RAM and 500gb HDD should be sufficient for basic computing tasks.
  4. Storage: Look for a laptop with at least 64GB of storage. Consider getting a laptop with a solid-state drive (SSD) instead of a traditional hard drive as it will provide faster performance.
  5. Battery Life: Aim for a laptop with a battery life of at least 6 hours, as this will give your child plenty of time to use it without needing to be plugged in.
  6. Durability: Look for a laptop with sturdy build quality and features such as spill-resistant keyboards and rugged casings.
  7. Operating System: Consider a laptop that runs either Windows 10 or macOS, depending on your child’s familiarity with these operating systems.

It’s also worth considering parental controls or software that can be installed to help protect your child’s online safety.
